ABOUT EXPOSED AGGREGATE CONCRETE

Exposed aggregate is widely used all across Perth not just for its decorative appeal, but its functionality too. Because of its coarse finish, it offers an added amount of skid resistance not found in polished or flat concrete. This is why you’ll frequently find exposed aggregate in Perth homes around the pool, or other outdoor areas.

As you can see from the products above, exposed aggregate comes in a wide range of colours and styles, which is why they’re favoured as a decorative alternative to regular concrete surfaces. The aggregate itself is mixed in with the concrete, and the top layer is removed to reveal the decorative beauty underneath.

WHERE CAN EXPOSED AGGREGATE CONCRETE BE USED?

Anywhere that concrete can be poured, exposed aggregate can be used as a more decorative option. Because of its coarse surface, it will be used frequently around pools, but the list of possibilities for exposed aggregate in Perth is almost endless.

  • Driveways
  • Outdoor eating areas
  • Pool areas
  • Plazas
  • Decorative retaining walls
  • Architectural facades
  • Garden edges

The list goes on, and if you want to find out more about the many uses of exposed aggregate and how you might be able to use it around your home, contact the experts at Concept Concrete WA in Perth today.

BASIC PROCESS FOR LAYING & FINISHING EXPOSED AGGREGATE CONCRETE

While this is only a broad overview, this is how laying exposed aggregate differs from a regular concrete surface.

  1. Concrete is boxed and laid as normal, smoothed and edged exactly as you would a normal surface.
  2. Once the surface is completely smooth, it is sprayed with a retarding agent which helps the surface of the concrete remain wet while the core can harden appropriately.
  3. The surface is then covered, for anywhere between 10-24 hours depending on the climate, allowing the core to harden sufficiently.
  4. The creamy surface on top of the concrete can then be hosed away, which exposes the decorative aggregate beneath – this should all have hardened properly if you’ve left it for the right amount of time. However, try not to hose one area for too long as it can create rivets.
  5. The surface can now be managed as normal, removing the boxing and sealing if required.

Frequently Asked  Questions

Why should I hire Concept Concrete WA to do my exposed aggregate?

With plenty of satisfied customers, our exposed aggregate professionals in Perth have a reputation of quality craftsmanship. When you want the job done right the first time, then look no further than Concept Concrete WA.

Why choose exposed aggregate concrete over brick paving?

Exposed aggregate won’t sink or warp like traditional brick paving, and you’ll also have fewer problems with weeds. It’s also a far more decorative option, and the coarseness of the surface gives it extra slip resistance.

Can I pour exposed aggregate myself?

You can certainly attempt to pour exposed aggregate yourself, however due to the complexities not found with regular concrete slabs, for the best results we recommend you contact experienced professionals such as our team at Concept Concrete WA.

Will my exposed aggregate concrete crack?

Concept Concrete WA take all steps to minimise cracking, however it can never be guaranteed against. Australian standards do not allow concrete installers in Perth to guarantee against cracking, and us such, none of them will.

How many colours of exposed aggregate can I choose from?

We offer a huge variety of different exposed aggregate finishes. You can choose from grey base mixes, charcoal base mixes, off-white base mixes and even coloured oxide mixes.

Is exposed aggregate built for all weather conditions?

Yes, exposed aggregate is highly durable. Also, when it’s wet, it won’t be as slippery as other surfaces.

How quickly can I walk on my new exposed aggregate surface?

We recommend waiting at least 24 hours before walking on it, and 7 days before driving on it. This gives the surface time to fully cure, dry and strengthen.

Can I have exposed aggregate over existing concrete?

It is possible, however we strongly recommend speaking to our experts at Concept Concrete to discuss your individual needs.
